WORKING WITH YOUR 1ST CHAKRA

Get the foundations strong by working with this chakra. Here's a very simple technique that takes no time at all but can help a return to chakra energy balance.

  • Rub both hands together and shake off to get rid of any old, stale, tired energies.

  • Feet on the ground and feel that connection to the Earth

  • Smile

  • Slow breathing

  • bring both hands over the pubic area

  • Say the following, or words of your choice:

I AM SAFE, SECURE, STABLE AND GROUNDED.

I KNOW MY SURVIVAL NEEDS ARE TAKEN CARE OF

AND ALL IS WELL. THANK YOU.

Repeat however many times feels good for you - I usually do about 3 times.

Try doing this outside in Nature to really add another dimension.

WHY would you do it - because connecting to the chakra in this way can help balance the emotions and energies connected to it - first step to balance and harmony!

SOME INITIAL THOUGHTS ON THIS FIRST CHAKRA, also known as Root or Base.

KEY WORDS      grounding/security/self preservation/safety/tribe/survival – think   Maslow's hierarchy of needs. In fact I was recently researching for my little book: MONEY is not a 4-lettered word and revisiting Maslow after nearly 30 years made me realise that the man must have had a knowledge of the chakra system!

LOCATION             coccyx/genital area

COLOUR                red, which has the lowest vibrational rate in the colour spectrum

PHYSICAL              Supports the body/base of spine/ legs/feet/immunity

EMOTIONAL          Your basic, rational survival needs

  • Connection/interaction with others, a sense of ‘tribe’, belonging, we are one.

  • Ancestral memories

  • Animal instinct to alert us to danger

  • Origin of sexual energy and orgasm [it moves up]

  • Firm emotional foundation to support you

  • Entry point for earth connection – vital to our growth on all levels

BASICALLY A CHAKRA WILL AFFECT ANY ORGANS, MUSCLES, LIGAMENTS, VEINS AND OTHER ASSORTED BODY PARTS THAT SIT IN THEIR FIELD.

HORMONES ARE PARTICULARLY INFLUENCED BY THEM. As such I'd make this system the first to visit for any endocrine issues.

Think of this chakra as the ‘pilot light’ to the boiler of the whole system. It fuels all the others and needs to be strong and free flowing to provide a good foundation energy flow.

There is no real hierarchy in the system. Each chakra is as important as another. However, our human linear, logical way of thinking will naturally strive to give the system a ‘rating’ and new students tend to want to leave this first chakra and race ahead to the working with the higher chakras which they perceive to be more important – but are not!

Because of its survival association, this is the chakra of deep maternal protection – it has to be for the survival of the species. Although sometimes this can manifest as dominance, rage, conquest – a more male desire to protect the tribe.

In contemporary life: survival, security and safety equates more with money, career, pensions and housing rather than hunting for meat and bringing it back to the tribe.  If you fear not being able to pay the mortgage and bills, this chakra will begin to shrink and you begin to enter a downward energetic spiral.

Sexual connection can and should involve all 7 main chakras, but the initial, core attraction is felt in the root.

The powerful Kundalini energy is contained here.

Work with this chakra if you need to become more connected to the ‘here and now’ to be fully present on the planet.

The early years of your life will affect the Root Chakra
