Sometimes when I fly long distances my lower back objects like a petulant child. Here's a couple of things I do to calm it down and reduce the discomfort of it's terrible muscular tantrum ....
Stretch it in any way obvious way that you know, I'll often do the stretch in the photo above, it might be something simple like sitting on a chair and with a straight back bending forward - gently breathe, smile and with each outbreath see if the lower back will release a little more - don't force into pain.
Specific SI stretches - here's one suggested by my friend Kelmie that is safe and effective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag4RTz8mTg4

I will also lean against two tennis balls in a sock (yes, I travel with them) and gently apply pressure/moving around slightly to produce a 'massaging' action for a minute or two.
Apply Magnesium topically to the area
The Benefits of Magnesium Applied Topically
Magnesium is a crucial mineral for overall health, playing a vital role in over 300 biochemical reactions in the body. While it’s commonly consumed through food or supplements, applying magnesium topically is gaining popularity due to its potential health benefits. Here's a look at why topical magnesium could be a great addition to your wellness routine
One of the key advantages of topical magnesium is its ability to bypass the digestive system. Some people may have difficulty absorbing magnesium orally due to digestive issues or medication use. By applying magnesium directly to the skin, it gets absorbed more efficiently into the bloodstream, ensuring that you get the necessary amounts without straining the gut.
Magnesium is well-known for its muscle-relaxing properties. When applied topically, it can quickly soothe sore muscles and relieve tension. Athletes and those with chronic muscle pain often use magnesium lotions or sprays to target specific areas of discomfort, providing fast relief from cramps, spasms, and tightness. Not that I consider myself an athlete!
Another great benefit .... Improved Sleep
Magnesium has calming properties, promoting relaxation and aiding in sleep. Topical application can help reduce stress and support a deeper, more restful sleep. I massage it into my feet and forearms before I go to bed to enhance sleep quality, as it helps regulate neurotransmitters involved in relaxation.
Magnesium plays a key role in regulating the body's stress response, it may help lower cortisol levels and improve your mood. The calming effect on the nervous system can bring a sense of relief and emotional balance.
A good place to apply topically is over, or near the chakra involved in a specific stressor. If not, so much stress revolves around fear, so massage over the lower back - kidneyMingmen area (Kidney sits in Water that governs fear) or it it's more anxiety, over the Stomach area.
Right, I'm off to stretch, tennis ball massage and apply my magnesium butter!
