It's Not Just About Losing Weight

It's Time We Changed the Conversation
For years we've been told that success is measured by a number on the scales.
Perhaps it's time we changed the conversation.
Instead of asking,
"How much weight do I need to lose?"
perhaps we should be asking,
"What is the healthiest weight for my unique body?"
No two bodies are the same.
We have different genes, different lifestyles, different hormones, different medical histories and different stages of life. This is especially true after menopause, when our bodies naturally change in ways we may never have experienced before. I know this for a fact .... it makes me laugh when I look in the mirror now and see my mother's body - how did that happen?
The scales, the magazines and social media don't know your body.
Your body does.
I gave up looking at charts, I listen to my body now.
Your healthiest weight is the one that allows you to move with ease, breathe more freely, sleep more deeply and enjoy life more fully. It is the weight where your body functions at its best—not someone else's idea of perfection.
Remember too that the scales tell only one small part of the story.
They can't measure your strength, your energy, your muscle, your resilience,
your confidence or your happiness.
Nor can they tell you how easily you climbed the stairs today,
whether your knees hurt less, or whether you woke up feeling refreshed.
When our bodies become healthier, weight loss is often simply one of the outcomes—not the goal itself.
As I continue on my own journey, I've noticed something far more important than the number on the scales.
I have more energy.
I move more easily.
My breathing feels freer.
Even my troublesome knee is far less painful.
Those changes matter far more to me than a dress size ever could.
Perhaps that's what true success looks like.
It's interesting but as I've moved along my personal timeline, I care much less
about the 'aesthetics' of having a 'slim' body .... I can always 'dress it up'.
Instead I care that I'm supporting my body in being as healthy as it can be.
After all, it looked after me during my youthful wild 'excesses'.
Now the tables have turned and I need to nurture and nourish my body.
I'm never going to have the body I had when I was 18, impossible quest.
BUT, I can aim to be the healthiest, strongest,
most energetic and resilient version of me that is possible right now.
So instead of chasing an ideal, why not begin listening to your own body?
It has probably been quietly giving you messages all along.
It knows when it feels nourished, when it needs rest, when it delights in
movement and when it's thriving.
Perhaps the real goal isn't simply losing weight.
Perhaps it's gaining health, and weight management is simply part of that.
and .....
Don't forget our Crone Zone mantra -
'every cell in my body is renewing with health, vitality, resilience and strength'
